Point Laz Announces Commercial Release of the Lazaruss Automated Mine Shaft Scanner in Africa

Point Laz, a Canadian company developing advanced mining technology solutions, is excited to announce the commercial release of the Lazaruss Automated Mine Shaft Scanner in Africa, in partnership with Dwyka Mining Services. This cutting-edge scanner is designed to revolutionize mine shaft inspections, providing comprehensive data that enables mining operations to better understand the condition of their shafts, ultimately improving safety and operational efficiency across the continent. Since the prototype release of the Lazaruss scanner, many new improvements have been completed.

New Key Features of the Lazaruss Automated Mine Shaft Scanner:

  • Automated PDF Reports: The Lazaruss Scanner generates automated PDFs that automatically detect changes between scans, allowing for quick and accurate assessment of shaft conditions over time. Data is presented in point cloud heatmaps, as shown below.
  • Rugged Construction: Built to IP-67 standards, the Lazaruss Scanner is engineered to withstand the toughest mine conditions, ensuring reliable performance in any environment. This, along with stainless steel components for resisting impacts and falls, ensures reliable performance in any environment.
  • Upgraded Battery Unit: The scanner features an upgraded battery unit, composed of cells, that meets stringent safety standards and is compliant with airplane carry-on requirements, making it easier and safer to transport.
  • New Safety Clamp: A new safety clamp has been introduced to assure safe installation, protecting workers and equipment during setup.
  • Point Cloud Colorization: Future updates will include point cloud colorization, enhancing the scanner’s ability to produce more detailed and visually informative data for better analysis of shaft conditions.

  • In Development: Stop-and-Go Feature: An upcoming stop-and-go feature will enable the Lazaruss Scanner to be used alongside conventional manual shaft inspections, offering greater flexibility and efficiency for mining operations.

“Delivering visibility from challenging environments is core to our business. We see the launch of the Lazaruss solution as a tool to elevate shaft safety and limit downtime. Optimising these key levers respectively across our mining landscape is critical based on recent events and global pressure to produce. With a successful roadshow completed across five South African shafts in 2024, Dwyka Mining Services is ready to support a shift towards Point Laz automated inspection capability”, shares Jamie van Schoor CEO Dwyka Mining Services. This launch marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide innovative, reliable, and safe solutions for the mining industry. “By partnering with Dwyka Mining Services, we are confident that the Lazaruss Scanner will set new standards for mine shaft inspections, improving safety and operational efficiency across the continent.” said Joel Venne, CRO at Point Laz.

Dwyka Mining Services, known for its expertise in delivering advanced mining technologies, will play a key role in the distribution and support of the Lazaruss Scanner in Africa.
